The hindi Singh Saab the Great is a 1980 Bollywood comedy film directed by H.A.A.R. Kumar and produced by Gulshan Rai under the banner of Rajkamal Kalamandal . It stars Dharmendra , Amitabh Bachchan , Hema Malini and Zeenat Aman in lead roles with Raaj Kumar, Johnny Walker, Rajendra Nath , Asrani, Kader Khan playing supporting roles . Music of the film was given by Laxmikant Pyarelal . The film is based on the life of Anand Singh. It won the Filmfare Award for Best Film. Saab's (Amitabh Bachchan) son (Johnny Walker); Sarita (Hema Malini), his faithless wife; and close friend, Chacha Bhatia (Rajendra Nath) are all expecting him to retire with them to their ancestral village, but they are heart-broken when he tells them that he has an engagement in New York City. They call him a coward for going abroad for a vacation while others back home have no electricity and lives in poverty. Saab's son (Johnny Walker) is embarrassed when he learns that Saab is being featured on the cover of a magazine. His friends at school criticize Saab, saying that he will have to retire, because he doesn't have any children. Chacha Bhatia becomes jealous of him and doesn't trust him. The film starts with Saab, Sarita and Chacha celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary with their family. After the dinner they are called to another engagement where they are supposed to perform. At the engagement, Saab's son gets too over-excited and almost misses his cue. He is given his punishment by Chacha Bhatia which hurts Sarita; Saab is surprised by this attitude of his son towards him. Sarita asks Chacha to apologize for this act but he doesn't do it. The film then shows that Saab has made many enemies back in his native village who try to get rid of him (he is called "sardar", barber; "budha", old man; "parihar", fool; because he was once a poor man). The fence around the village's school catches fire, due to which all students are pulled out of the school by their parents. Saab then comes to the rescue of the school and its students. A new principal is appointed at the school, who is a selfish man. His relatives want him to become the next "sarpanch" of the village. A new English teacher named Laddo (Amitabh Bachchan) is appointed at that school who tells people that he is there to teach them education, not just English. He teaches them to be honest and hard-working by his own example. A rich man, Kedarnath (Kader Khan) tries to bribe Saab for not coming between him and becoming "sarpanch". cfa1e77820
